And to keep your hearts and voices warm, there will be a glass of wine, a light supper, and some sing-a-long favourites! Proceeds from the concert will go towards the St George's Church Feeding Scheme, which is based at St George's Church in Parktown and serves the greater Parktown area. We aim to raise enough to buy bread for the feeding scheme for a whole year! - Tickets are R120, which includes a light supper. - A cash bar will serve wine and soft drinks. - Raffle tickers for two fabulous Christmas Hampers are R10 each. - Safe parking will be provided by the Rosebank Car Guards. - Please "Bring a Blanket" and donate it to St George's Feeding Scheme at the end of the evening. The August nights for those living on the streets can be particularly bitter. |

Author: AdminVocalize’s third annual charity concert series, held in October 2009 at Glenshiel in Westcliff, raised R15,000 for the Order of St John. Held for the first time as a series, the concerts on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon were fully subscribed, and the audiences were treated to delicious drinks and eats courtesy of JD Group, and could enjoy the gracious old Randlord style of the Glenshiel manor house. Vocalize entertained once again with their programme of vocal jazz in close harmony. Vocalize is a “not for profit” organisation founded on the basis that our love of singing can be used to assist many worthy causes in our community. Over the years we have supported Dependable Strengths, Witwatersrand Hospice and the Order of St John.

| Other Info | Be sure to catch the premiere Vocalize concert on Wednesday, 21 November 2007, starting at 7pm. The venue is St George’s Church, Sherborne Road, Parktown. The organisation selected to benefit from this concert will be the “Dependable Strengths Foundation”. All proceeds from your R50 ticket will go towards the Foundation - so be sure to bring a friend or tow along with you. Aside from supporting this great cause, you will be treated to a varied programme of vocal works from ancient to modern. The wonderful 100-year old Herbert Baker setting of St George’s Church is appropriate for the first half of sacred music, ranging from the stunning Byrd “Mass for Four Voices” to the modern Tavener setting of ”The Lamb”. In the second half, the focus is on fun and entertainment, and we will take you on a journey through secular music from 16th century madrigals such as the quaint story of “Fair Phyllis” to Sinead O’Connor’s beautiful ballad “In This Heart”, with Ellington, the Beatles, and Over the Rainbow in between. Most of the programme is for 4 unaccompanied voices (or a cappella) however we have interspersed these works with some accompanied works to showcase the solo voices, such as “Domine Deus” from Vivaldi’s Gloria and a couple of Josh Groban numbers in the second half. |
