| Other Info | Be sure to catch the premiere Vocalize concert on Wednesday, 21 November 2007, starting at 7pm. The venue is St George’s Church, Sherborne Road, Parktown. The organisation selected to benefit from this concert will be the “Dependable Strengths Foundation”. All proceeds from your R50 ticket will go towards the Foundation - so be sure to bring a friend or tow along with you. Aside from supporting this great cause, you will be treated to a varied programme of vocal works from ancient to modern. The wonderful 100-year old Herbert Baker setting of St George’s Church is appropriate for the first half of sacred music, ranging from the stunning Byrd “Mass for Four Voices” to the modern Tavener setting of ”The Lamb”. In the second half, the focus is on fun and entertainment, and we will take you on a journey through secular music from 16th century madrigals such as the quaint story of “Fair Phyllis” to Sinead O’Connor’s beautiful ballad “In This Heart”, with Ellington, the Beatles, and Over the Rainbow in between. Most of the programme is for 4 unaccompanied voices (or a cappella) however we have interspersed these works with some accompanied works to showcase the solo voices, such as “Domine Deus” from Vivaldi’s Gloria and a couple of Josh Groban numbers in the second half. |
